A Raymore homeowner is warning others after her solar panels turned into what she calls "roof decorations" that never generated the electricity she was promised. She is among over 50 people who have reached out to a local investigative team with complaints about solar contracts, rising monthly payments, and surprise financial fallout.
The homeowner signed a door-to-door agreement for solar panels that were supposed to cut her utility bills. Instead, the system failed to deliver the expected power, leaving her stuck with equipment that does not work and payments that keep climbing. She now faces the difficult choice of either paying off the loan for the panels or trying to remove them from her roof.
Real estate agents are also sounding the alarm. They report that many homeowners who signed these contracts are now unable to sell their homes. The solar panel leases or loans can complicate a property sale, scaring off buyers who do not want to take over the payments. In some cases, the panels must be paid off in full before a home can change hands, which can cost thousands of dollars.
Industry experts advise anyone approached by a door-to-door solar salesperson to slow down. They recommend getting multiple quotes, reading the fine print carefully, and checking the company's reputation before signing anything. The homeowner from Raymore says she wishes she had done her homework first, rather than trusting a stranger at her door.
